Several small blue spinel crystals are embedded in a matrix of calcite, phlogopite, and diopside on this specimen. The crystals are small, averaging only 0.1" (0.3cm) in size. Only a couple of the spinels show any damage-the others are intact, with good octahedral form. These spinels show the curiously rounded crystal edges that seems to be the norm for this locality. The calcite fluoresces dark purple under short wave ultraviolet light.
