This specimen consists of several intergrown blue spinel crystals in a calcite host rock. The largest spinel crystal measures 0.2" (0.5cm) in length. With the aid of a loupe, traces of diopside are visible in the matrix. Some of the spinels show some damage, although the larger crystals seem to be intact. These spinels show the curiously rounded crystal edges that seem to be the norm for this locality. The calcite matrix fluoresces dark purple under short wave ultraviolet light.
