Though essentially formless, this Iolite specimen might actually show evidence of crystal form! Many of the surfaces are conchoidal and uneven, but a few suggest some definable structure. The piece has the standard pleochroism, showing deep violet, pale blue-violet and pale beige colors. Surfaces with fresh damage have a vitreous luster, while older damage and other surfaces are more pearly. The Iolite is transparent and quite clear, and the piece is affixed inside a thumbnail box with a removable putty.
