SYLVANITE
Specimen syl-1

$ 26.00
Dims: 0.4 x 0.2 x 0.2" (1.1 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm)
Wt: 7 g w/ base
Wahsburn Mine, Boulder County, Colorado, U.S.A.
This tiny thumbnail piece consists of a piece of host rock (likely quartz or quartzite) that contains a few small veins of semicrystalline Sylvanite. These veins are too small to effectively study even with a loupe, but show the standard silvery-white color and metallic luster of the mineral. The piece is attached to a flat acrylic base via a small post, and the base fits inside the included thumbnail box.

A crystalline Sylvanite formation extends from the quartz base of this thumbnail specimen. The formation is in excellent condition, showing no damage, and has dimensions of 0.3 x 0.2 x 0.1" (9 x 4 x 3 mm). Though the Sylvanite does not show any definite monoclinic form, it is certainly crystalline and has the classic silvery-white color and metallic luster of its specie. The base from which it extends contains a vein of either Sylvanite or possibly empressite that extends completely through it.
