These are the most commonly recognized birthstones based upon the astrological signs of the Zodiac.

Note that there is no single authority to approve these choices. However, most sources seem to agree on the birthstones as listed, with many other choices also recognized by one or more sources. The most common alternate selections match the birthstones for the calendar month, and some sources name as many as a half-dozen choices.

Also please note that the dates listed here as the starting and ending dates of the astrological periods are only approximate, and will vary with the person's actual year of birth when the birthdate is close to the transition (on the cusp) between constellations.
